I bought this for my nephew, as we are planning a trip to Scotland this year and he is always curious about the history of places and the culture of the people. How to distill so many centuries of history in a way he could grasp and remember?? I took a chance on this book, and it exceeded my expectations. It is written comic-book style so the pictures grab his attention, and it gives a very good, broad overview of the history of Scotland and its various peoples. Nephew is sneaking in a read every morning before school--he's fascinated and likes the book very much. We'll take it with us when we go so we can look up facts on the spot. Highly recommended for kids about his same age.
Going to Scotland with friends and knew nothing of Scottish history. I wanted an overview that was neither too simplistic nor difficult to read. This 'picture book' fits the bill. Gives a good overview of people, wars and accomplishments of a land and people molded by their history and land.
Great price! Great product! Timely delivery! We're a book loving family, and my husband is of Scottish heritage, so we gave the book to our son! Thank you SO much!
This is an excellent book and provides historical facts about Scotland in a child friendly way. My 7 year old loves this book and I have also enjoyed sharing it with her. Richard Brassey and Stewart Ross have come up with a beautifully illustrated and well written book that will spark your child's imagination and allow them to learn lots of great things about Scottish history. This is a great addition to our book collection.
For older kids or adults, as it's a bit wordy (not in a bad way) and is frank about Scotland's rather bloody history. I enjoy the "cartoon guide" type format of books and have appropriated this book off the kids' shelf to my own for the moment.
Easy to follow. Family loved it.
This book covers a vast amount of ths history of Scotland in a light hearted and sometimes humorous way.Since I am originally from Scotland I appreciate the fact that the events listed in the book are authentic and show that this small country has produced many remarkable people.
Four years old, and convinced he's going to live in Scotland one day---this fit his needs! Amazon says I need more words to submit. What a stupid demand.
