Not disappointed with this product. It came in good shape. I just need to learn how to play my recorder then I can have fun playing these songs.

Seems like a great book. Can't wait to begin. Had duets, trios, Christmas pieces, and lots of other fun songs. For all the duets, trios, etc, one part contains the whole melody so you could play them by one person. Includes a chart in the back with both baroque and german fingering. I was quite surprised and delighted to find pieces like "Barcarolle" from the "tales of Hoffman" by Offenbach included. Or "Musette" by Bach. It also has songs like au Claire de lune and three blind mice (for practicing the first 3 notes B-A-G).Teaches c major scale and up to high D. It also teaches F# and Bb. It teaches the basics of music as well. You learn time signatures, what measures are, and how to read music. It does not have the notes written for you, so no cheating.

When I purchased this book, I also purchased the book titled, "Recorder Fun! Teach Yourself the Easy Way!". I like both books for different reasons. This book shows music exactly as it would appear in other actual sheet music that one would use to perform with. The other book shows the name of the notes on each individual note, which helps one to memorize them. This book shows the picture of the recorder from the top to the bottom, and the other book shows the picture of the recorder from bottom to top. Each book contains different songs from the other (which is nice), and each book contains songs with only the notes that have been learned up to that point (which again, is great). Both books also contain lyrics, where appropriate, which are nice for those who want to do duets, trios, etc. This book also gives a 1 page illustration and descriptions of the entire family of recorders, which the other book does not offer. The other book does, however, come with a CD that properly demonstrates how all of the songs in the book should be played, which is a wonderful bonus for those who plan to play the recorder as more than a hobby. Overall I am happy that I decided to purchase both books together. It seems that what one book leaves out, the other one includes - which is why I recommend purchasing both books together.

This book is fine if you want to learn the soprano or tenor recorder. The Amazon writeup claims it's appropriate for all recorders, including alto, sopranino and bass. It is not. The fingering diagrams ONLY apply to soprano and tenor. The first few pages of the book discuss all the members of the recorder family, including the bass. This gives the impression that one could learn to play these recorders. One cannot. It's still a good book, if your aim is to play soprano (the most common and easiest to finger) and tenor.

This book was recommended as a purchase with the Tudor TD175 recorder which I purchased at the same time. The book starts with a one page introduction to recorders and one page introduction to super basic music theory. (what notes are what, lines, spaces etc) although nothing spectacular. This is not an issue for me as I've played clarinet for a number of years. Each note has its own page showing the finger position and then a song or practice exercise with it. As you go through the book, each note has a few more songs with it to combine what you have just learned with what you have already learned. It builds logically and is quite good for someone who is teaching themselves to play. I am slowly working my way through it and have absolutely no complaints.

Great beginners book. I have a degree in music and decided to pick up the recorder just for fun do I could teach my 6yo daughter. Anyone with a background in music can easily pick up the recorder rather quickly (I did in two days) with the help of this book, and it is perfect for beginning young players or people without a background in music. It teaches basics of music notation as it teaches the fingerings and notes on the instrument. Note that it primarily uses the baroque fingerings, but the fingering chart in the back of the book includes both German and baroque fingerings.

I bought this for my 8 year old and then barrowed it from her since I missed out on recorder in elementary. It's been beneficial to both of us. It starts with very simple music and builds gradually, hitting all the basics. The pages are large and easy to read. Also explains basic note reading stuff like timing. About half the songs were familiar so that was nice. Lots of folks and Christmas songs. No previous music experience is necessary.

I wanted this book sooner so I went to Sam Ash music store instead of ordering from Amazon. Well they didn't keep it in stock so I had to have them order it anyway and I paid a few dollars more than if I had ordered through Amazon. Not a big deal as we have to keep local stores in business too. I took recorder lessons (and used this book) for about 3 months (Summer 2016) before switching to the flute. However, since the pictures and the music charts in this book are clearer, I find that I still use it when practicing songs for the flute. I know the fingering is different between the 2 instruments. Since I have only had 8 flute lessons, I just find this one easier to use than my actual flute book. Eventually I will feel comfortable enough to use the flute book, I hope. This book is very good for beginners whether you are taking recorder lessons or teaching yourself.

Bought this to teach my 6 and 8 yr old daughters how to play recorder and so far we like it. It doesn't start teaching them about the staff but just jumps right into the first three notes you play and then a couple short songs. With just a couple 30 min lessons a couple days in a row over Christmas holiday she was playing her first songs. She loves it! Now that she is back in school she has a few songs she can practice on her own in the morning and we can learn new songs over the weekend. The book goes into more detail over the staff and notes later on. I would recommend this book for starters.
